Project A6: PhD Position

Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Soft-Matter Systems

In the framework of the Collaborative Research Center TRR 146 “Multiscale Simulation Methods for Soft-Matter Systems”, a PhD position is available at the Institute of Condensed Matter Physics of the Technical University Darmstadt in the group of Prof. Dr. Michael Vogel.

The doctoral position is associated with a research project on computer simulations of dynamic heterogeneities in ionic liquids and liquid crystals. This project is a collaboration of the groups of Prof. Dr. Michael Vogel and Prof. Dr. Kurt Kremer (Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz). The PhD student in the Vogel group will perform computer simulations for fine grained and coarse grained models of bulk and confined ionic liquids, while a PhD student in the Kremer group will do analogous studies for liquid crystals. The goal of these combined efforts is to systematically develop mapping schemes, which not only reproduce structural features, but also conserve dynamical properties upon coarse graining.

The successful applicant is a motivated scientist with a MSc degree in Physics or Chemistry who has an excellent background in computational physics, including a consolidated knowledge about molecular dynamics simulations. He or she is a creative and independent worker, but at the same time a team player, who is willing to collaborate with other members of the TRR 146 and of the Vogel group.

Applications should be submitted to:
