PhD/Postdoc position: Deep learning meets multi-scale simulation

The Institute for Computer Science at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research Mainz (MPI-P) jointly invite applications for a PhD student or PostDoc position in the areas of machine learning for computational physics. The position is affiliated with the DFG Collaborative Research Centre “TRR 146: Multiscale Simulation Methods for Soft Matter Systems” (www.trr146.de).

The research focuses on exploring the links between recently-developed deep learning methodologies and multiscale simulation techniques applied to soft-matter materials. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research between computer science and condensed-matter physics. The position is open to applicants from both natural science (such as physics/chemistry) and computer science. We seek applicants with either background with demonstrated affinity to the other subject area. In all cases, we look for strong programming skills and a solid algorithmic and mathematical background. Prior exposure to machine learning and statistical physics will be considered a plus. We are interested in filling the position as soon as possible.
